How Meridian thinks about clinician-augmenting AI. The clinician is the decision-maker. Our job is to make the evidence faster to reach, the risks harder to miss, and the reasoning impossible to lose.

THE PROBLEM

A clinician makes hundreds of micro-decisions a day, often in minutes, frequently without the full picture in front of them. Guidelines change, interactions are easy to miss, and the relevant evidence is scattered across systems that were never designed to be read mid-consultation.

The cost of that gap is not abstract. It shows up as avoidable harm, repeated tests, and the quiet erosion of confidence that comes from deciding under pressure without support.

Every recommendation our systems make carries its reasoning and its sources. A clinician can see why a flag was raised and follow it back to the evidence behind it — and so can a regulator.

We design alongside practising clinicians and deploy in stages: shadow mode first, then supervised, then live, with continuous audit at every step. Nothing reaches the bedside until it has earned that place.

Clinical decision support is safety-critical software, and we treat it that way. Our work follows the DCB 0129 and DCB 0160 clinical-safety standards, with hazard logs and a named clinical safety officer on every engagement.

Where a tool meets the definition of a medical device, we develop it within the MHRA's Software as a Medical Device framework from the outset, rather than retrofitting compliance after the fact.
